Joseph Clair Culp, 80, of Baton Rouge, La., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013. Born Jan. 7, 1933, in Manor Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, he was a son of Charles Lawrence Culp and Jessie McKee Heilman Culp. Joseph was the youngest of the family of seven. A graduate of Penn State University, he majored in petroleum engineering. Following college, he received training and became an Air Force officer in the Strategic Air Command, serving as a navigator of a B47. Mr. Culp wanted to serve his country as three of his brothers had. After his discharge, he accepted a position with Texaco in New Orleans, La., and worked for the company until his retirement. Joseph was an avid supporter of Penn State football. He also generously provided funds for scholarships for future Penn State graduates. Joseph is survived by his siblings, Richard Culp, Carl Culp, Edwin Culp, Mrs. Martha Culp (Frank) Hogg and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Merle Culp and a sister, Julia Culp Grimm. At Mr. Culp's request, there was no viewing and funeral arrangements will be private.
