Maria Antonieta Callejas Gremillion ( Toni ), born August 31, 1927, in Puerto Castilla, Honduras, a person of God who served Him well passed peacefully joining hands with her Savior Jesus on Saturday morning March 29, 2014. A beautifully vibrant and intelligent woman who charismatically captured the hearts of many, Toni was a special angel sent to us from heaven. After graduating from St. Scholastica Academy in 1944 in Covington, LA, she returned to Honduras to accept the role of Foreign Service Clerk for the American Consulate in San Pedro Sula. It was at that time she was nicknamed, "Toni". She returned to continue her studies here in New Orleans and received an associate's degree. She was a natural born leader in every endeavor, dedicating herself to excellence, working diligently in secretarial/administrative roles for Hemisphere Inc., Terrebonne Hospital (employee of the year 1969), Pan American Life Ins. Company, and retired from East Jefferson General Hospital after 24 years of loyal service. A graceful and grand lady, with unwavering faith and strength who loved her family & friends, shopping, watching and listening to all sports, baseball, soccer, tennis, golf, football, she is known for being a die-hard Tulane, Notre Dame and Saints fan. She was even the commissioner for her fantasy football league. Toni was a great conversationalist, intrigued by history, she was always eager to discuss current events, loved to engage in debating political matters. She volunteered her services to the Republican Women's Association on several campaigns. We, her children, will always have fond memories of our beach vacations, Christmas and Thanksgiving Day celebrations and all the love she gave to us unconditionally. Preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Aristede Gremillion and her parents, Ricardo A. Callejas and Salvadora (Lita) Montes Callejas. Beloved mother of Susan Perrier (Joey), Carole Hritz (Jim), Joseph R. Gremillion (Amy) and Lynn Pickett (Glenn). Cherished great-grandmother of Sage, Landon & Logan McCann, Skye McCann, Nicholas & Chase Kapesis. She is survived by her caring sister, Ileana C. Benitez (Arnold) and will be deeply missed by every person she touched especially her dear nieces, nephews, cousins and step-family, neighbors, friends and co-workers.
