Michael Ryder Cuccia, 71, of Metairie, Louisiana passed away peacefully on January 14, 2014. Mike is survived by his devoted wife and best friend for the last 48 years, Carlota Mustakas Cuccia. He was extremely loving and proud of his children, Elizabeth Cuccia Regl and her husband John of Columbus, MS, Carolyn Cuccia Stearns and her husband Dane of Terrytown, LA and his son Michael Ryder Cuccia, Jr. and his wife Pamelia of Baton Rouge, LA. He is also survived by his grandchildren that he loved to play with, read to, and spend time with: Erica Regl, Emily Cuccia, Dexter Stearns, and Rebecca Cuccia who knew him as "Paw Paw"' and his brother Thomas Cuccia of Pearl River, LA. He was predeceased by his father Joseph Peter Cuccia, his mother Genevieve Ryder Cuccia. Born on November 23, 1942, Mike resided with his wife Carlota in Metairie, LA. He attended Jesuit High School and graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. Mike served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army and then retired 15 years later from the Army Reserve with a rank of Major, worked as an engineer at Kaiser Aluminum for 16 years, and finished his career as a senior engineer at Dyn McDermott for 20 years. Although Mike was successful in all areas of his life, his greatest love and accomplishment was his family. He was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. In addition to being an extraordinary role model for his children, he was unbelievably giving of his time, knowledge, and friendship to anyone who needed it. Mike enjoyed living life to the fullest whether it be traveling or spending time at home. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at GREENWOOD FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124 on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 a. m.
