Oscar Judah Tolmas passed away on Monday, December 2nd. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie Tolmas, his parents, Cecile and Charles Tolmas, his brother, Gerson Tolmas, his sister, Dorothy Tolmas Horton, and his niece, Cheri Horton. Mr. Tolmas was a lawyer, a homebuilder, and a businessman. He built many homes in New Orleans and Metairie. His passion, however, was horse racing. He has been a familiar face at The Fairgrounds for decades. He served on the Louisiana Racing Commission for fourteen years, and was the Chairman of the Commission for four years. He served as a Naval officer in the Pacific theater during World War II. He graduated from Tulane Law School in 1943 and was recently honored as a seventy year member of the Louisiana Bar Association. Mr. Tolmas is survived by his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Hyman and Connie Tolmas, his nieces, Rae Horton and Dr. Jeanie Tolmas, his nephews, Alan Tolmas (wife Gina Tolmas) and Dr. Joe Horton, many grandnieces and grandnephews, one great-grandniece and two great-grandnephews. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Katrina Swilley, Sandra Bridges, and Nakia Collins, for their excellent care and for their gracious and generous caring.
