Peter A. Di Pol, age 92, passed away at home on Thursday, November 7, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. The son of Regina and Angelo Di Pol, Peter was born on March 26, 1921 in Colle, Friulli, Italy and at a young age came to the United States through Ellis Island, New York, where his family made their home. Peter and his family are very proud of his service in World War ll where he served in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 through 1945 as part of the 33rd Infantry Division, 108th Engineer Combat Battalion. This battalion was responsible for building roads under extremely hazardous conditions and continuous enemy fire. Peter came to New Orleans in 1947 and founded D & L Terrazzo in 1954 where he worked until his full retirement in 2001. It was in New Orleans that he married the love of his life, the late Ida Zambano Di Pol. Peter and Ida were married for 45 years. Together, they raised seven children, Susan Di Pol, Lisa Di Pol, Donna Caplinger (Stephen), David Di Pol (Claire), Jane Di Pol, Judy Di Pol, and Lynne Di Pol Kalmbach (Terry). Peter was the proud Grandfather of Peter Crowsen, Anne Crowsen Zimmer (Chris), Christopher and Laura Caplinger, David Di Pol Jr. and Daniel Di Pol, and Ellen, Elizabeth, and Robert Kalmbach. Peter was affectionately known as "Pa" to his children and grandchildren, and "Mr. Pete" to many friends. Peter was a strong, hardworking and generous man who gave so much too so many people. Peter left this world saying what a beautiful life he had lived. His presence will continue to be felt within all those who had the joy and honor of knowing him. Peter was preceded in death by his brother, Bruno Di Pol, and his sister Elsa Di Pol DiPinto. Peter is survived by his children, grandchildren, his wife Regina Mian and his brother Gene Di Pol.
