Peter Victor Abate, age 87, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 with his family by his side. Peter, the son of Sicilian immigrants, was born April 24, 1926 in St. Rose, LA and lived most of his life there. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen Cox Abate and sister, Mary Abate Desimone. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Abate; mother, Rosa Digirolamo Abate; sister, Nora Abate Lemoine; brothers, Vincent, Nick, Philip, Joseph and Sam Abate. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a member of Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society, Italian American Bocce Club, Touchdown Club of New Orleans, former member of Krewe of Endymion, and the Italian American Marching Club. He served in Louisiana Air National Guard, 122nd Bomb Squadron and was on active duty April 1951- April 1952 during the Korean War. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kenner. He loved life, loved his family and friends and was very proud of his Italian heritage. He did all that he could to help promote Italian culture. The family would like to thank Ormond Nursing and Care Center for their kindness and care during his stay there. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service. The visitation will be held at L. A. Muhleisen and Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 500 Minor Street, Kenner.
