Thomas J. Burghout, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country during World War II, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of 66 years to Betty Gaw Burghout. Loving father of Julie A. Evans, Gerrit J. Burghout II and the late Rodney T. Burghout. Son of the late Gerrit and Adele Pourciau Burghout. Brother of the late Henrietta Hardy, Gerrit Burghout Jr and Catherine Tomlin. Proud grandfather of Sarah Flanangan, Gerrit Burghout III, Aimee Barrett, Rachel Aldy and Jade Lanau. Great grandfather of Alli Barrett, Rylli Barrett, Noah Barrett, Michael Flanangan, Jake Flanangan, Adlee Aldy, Abel Aldy and Jared Burghout. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Thomas was well loved and will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and brother, who loved his country and treasured his family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Monday, November 18th from 10:00AM – 12:30PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 12:30PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
