Barbara Anthony Hendrickson, 83, of Metairie, Louisiana, died April 27, 2014. Daughter of the late Mark Jones Anthony and Irene Merzbacher Anthony and half-sister to the late Mark J. Anthony, she was born on June 22, 1930, in Gainesville, Texas. Barbara graduated from Altus High School in Oklahoma in 1948 and in 1952 received a BA in speech therapy from the University of Oklahoma. In 1955 she married Jack Hendrickson, who preceded her in death in 1972. They moved to the New Orleans area in 1956, and she has lived in her home in Metairie since 1959. Barbara is survived by her four children: Mark Hendrickson (and his wife Leslie) of Katy, Texas; Frank Hendrickson of Metairie, Louisiana; Lisa Hebert (and her husband Mike) of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Jack Hendrickson of Metairie. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Barbara was an avid reader, accomplished gardener, and excellent cook. She was also an ardent sports fan, enjoying all sports, particularly University of Oklahoma football and the New Orleans Saints. She had many lifelong friends that she kept in touch with and cherished. Her family would like to thank the outstanding medical help provided by the nurses at Ochsner Oncology/Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center and the support provided by Passages Hospice. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Boulevard, in Metairie.
