Bonita Hurst Jones, age 81, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 after a brief illness. She was born in Kilgore, Texas to the late David and Minnie Hurst on July 24, 1932. Bonita was a time resident of Metairie. Bonita attended Mississippi State College for Women before moving to New Orleans where she met her future husband. She was a homemaker for many years, following which she and Franklin travelled extensively. Her interests included gardening, playing bridge, book club, art, her grandchildren, and her summer home in Highlands, NC. Bonita was an excellent cook and enjoyed exploring the cuisines of many cultures. On hearing the news of her passing her friends have remarked on the extraordinary bond they shared with Bonita and how much they will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Hardy Jones Jr and is survived by her son Franklin Hardy Jones III (Cynthia) and her daughters Martha Jones Menge (Peter) and Nancy Jones (Dwight Waddell). Bonita is also survived by her three granddaughters Caroline Frances Jones, Mary Helen Hurst Jones and Catherine Hardy Waddell whom she adored. She is also survived by her sister Sylvia McAdams of The Woodlands Texas and David B. Hurst Jr. of Charlotte NC and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Poydras Home for the loving care they gave Bonita. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30th at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery and Soldiers Rest in Vicksburg MS on Friday, January 31 12 noon.
