Dave Joseph Lopez passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife of 65 years, Helen Dufrene Lopez. He was 87 years old. Beloved father of Larry Lopez (Debbie), Glenn Lopez, Sr. (Tuddy), and Cheryl Lopez Balestra (John). Grandfather of Waylon Lopez, Adam Lopez (Jamie), Glenn Lopez, Jr. (Brandy), Jason Lopez, Lenny Lopez (Noelle), Rickie Eslick, Jr. (Monica), Roy Eslick, and Amber Fell (Brett). Great-Grandfather of Mia, Jared, Devin, Alyssa, Sadie, Lainey, Brennan, Danny, Gracie, Lily, Logan, and Hunter. Brother Maurice Lopez, Fallon Lopez and the late Mildred Naquin. Son of the late Edward and Amay Lopez. Son-in-law of the late Eves and Josephine Dufrene. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was born in Bayou Goula, a native of White Castle, and resident of Marrero for 67 years. He was a graduate of White Castle High School, and served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed by Celotex for 17 years, and later served as the Fire Chief for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Michoud Facility for 29 years. He had a passion for his garden and enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones. Relatives and Friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service from Westside LEITZ-EAGAN, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, on Wednesday Afternoon, February 19, 2014 at 1:00. Visitation will begin at 10:00 in the morning. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna. An online guestbook is available at www.westsideleitzeagan.com.
