Fred Hughes, resident of Jefferson, Louisiana (aka Shrewsbury) and native of Star, Mississippi, entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 85. He was the son of the late Eddie Hughes and Annie Lee Potter; Beloved husband of Leola Burton Hughes; Father of Gail Scott-Gillespie, Gregory Scott, Sr. and Leo Scott, Jr.; Brother of Geraldine Stalling and the late Willie and Geneva Hughes. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several god-children and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Fred retired from Illinois Central Railroad after working there over 30 years. Not only was he a devoted hard worker, he was a loving and generous man who lived a full and bountiful life. He is leaving a legacy and example that we all should strive to follow. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at First Zion B.C., 1221 S. Causeway Blvd., Jefferson, La. 70121, Pastor Thomas Nunnery. Viewing is at 9:00 a.m. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at Restlawn Park Cemetery & Mausoleum, Avondale, La., Professional services entrusted to Dennis Funeral Home, 1812 Louisiana Ave., New Orleans, LA 70115.
