George D. Black, 61 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Estelle J. Wilson Mortuary, 2715 Danneel Street. The Homegoing service commemorating his life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 am at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 6339 Providence Place, pastored by Rev. Marvin Hudson Sr.; Rev. Samuel I. Davis, Officiating. Visitation will be held from 8:00 am until the hour of service. Interment, Providence Memorial Park. George was well known in the funeral home industry. He respectfully served families with dignity and grace. His life was interrupted, but while he was on this earth, he embraced opportunities and the chance to experience life with open arms. His smile and charming ways can never be replaced. He leaves to cherish his many precious memories, his wife, Mary J. Black; his children, Marlon (Lakecia) Black, Troy (Shaunna) Burrell, Faith B. (Mack) Richburg, Blair Burrell Sr. and Marquillis Ghoram; daughter in law, Jeanette Gilmore Burrell; one sister, Yvonne Black Joseph; two brothers, Randy Black Sr. and Michael (Elnora) Hunt; in laws, Louise (Marvin) Chapman, Lavernia Cage Black, Douglas Joseph Jr., Kevin (Lynette) Jones and Enos Jones Jr.; eleven grandchildren; four godchildren; one aunt and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches, employees of Rhodes Funeral Home, Dennis Mortuary, Estelle J. Wilson Mortuary, Murray Henderson Funeral Home, Robottom Mortuary and Heritage Funeral Directors are all invited to attend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Black and Katie Hobbs Black; one brother, Bruce H. Black; one son, Vernon Burrell; two grandchildren and one brother in law, Henry Jones.
