Big Joe Lacara went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the age of 71. He was born on December 13, 1942 and was born and raised in Hammond. Big Joe proudly served his country for 4 years in the US Army while in Europe. He loved spending time and camping with his family, traveling to the mountains, he also enjoyed the outdoors on his property in his "Chuckwagon" and his tractor. Big Joe was a successful businessman and a dedicated Bus Driver for Tangipahoa Parish School System for 42 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who brought love, laughter and comfort to all who knew him and will be missed dearly. Big Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Ann Lacara; daughter, Karla Jo Lacara of Hammond; sons, Kevin James Lacara of Hammond, and Joseph James Lacara, Jr. and wife Darlene Lulow Lacara of Hammond; brother, Angelo Lacara of Hammond; grandchildren, Hannah Prevost, Mary Lacara and T.J. Provence; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Preceding Big Joe in death were his parents, Sam Lacara and Mary Notariano Lacara; sisters, Anna Lacara Mancuso and Mary Grace Lacara. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 12 noon with visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Internment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery.
