He taught OWL with me at the UU church. Generous and spirited man, will be missed by all. A really good dancer as well, he could bring a smile to my face watching him and his lovely wife dance.

A lot of Joe's friends might not know the Joe I became friends with in the early 1970's. Joe and I were classmates in Nursing School. He not only became my friend, but my mentor, as we worked together in the ICU while we were in school.
We spent time bow fishing for alligator gar in the swamps, and camping on the beach around Pensacola. Joe's Green Beret distinctiveness would show itself there, as he dared me to see how far we could swim at night offshore and back. (This was pre-Jaws", or I wouldn't have accepted his dare.)
We had a lot of adventures (and misadventures) back then. We became climbing buddies, spending time climbing at Enchanted Rock in Texas, making it up a winter climb of Long's Peak in Colorado, and Joshua Tree and Yosemite Valley in California (where we almost had to get rescued, but that's another story).
I sort lost touch with Joe after moving to Austin, Texas, and it has been awhile since we talked. Here's the deal: I always considered Joe invincible, and thought that we would eventually get together to hang out some more and compare hairlines. I am so sad that that will never be. My life would have been different without Joe, my Old Friend.

What a wonderful fellow who certainly danced to his own tune and as though no one was watching, though most of the time hundreds were. Hope there is tie die in heaven!

Joe wrung every moment of joy out of life that there was to find. I miss you every day, Joe, and thinking about you always reminds me to be grateful for every bit of life.
