Marguerite Lucille Fry of Covington, formerly of New Orleans and Washington D.C., passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 1, 2014 at the age of 91. Marguerite was born in New Orleans, LA on August 26, 1922 to the late Thomas Curlen Fry and Lucille Braud Fry. She was preceded in death by her siblings - Thomas Fry (Helen and Kieko), John R. Fry (Jane) and Virginia Fry Meyers (Bill); her niece - Cynthia Meyers Bamber; nephew-in-law - Gary Verzwyvelt and great-niece - Camille Anise Fry. Marguerite was the beloved sister of Ernest Michael Fry (Stephanie) and the beloved aunt of Susan Meyers Skates (Phillip), Karen Meyers, John R. Fry, Jr. (Ann), Thomas R. Fry (Lyn), Christopher M. Fry (Cheri'), Jane "Puddy" Fry Robinson (Jim), and Annie Fry Verzwyvelt. She is also survived by many loving great-nieces and nephews - Tyler Skates; Trey, Sydney, Jillien, Kacie, Tommy, Maggie, Cecile Fry; James, Sarah, Helen, Hope Robinson; John Paul and Eric Verzwyvelt; and Kate and David Messer. After Marguerite graduated from Dominican College in New Orleans, LA, she began her teaching career, which she loved, at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, MD. She then changed careers to an administrative assistant on Capitol Hill, including but not limited to Senator Hale Boggs, the State Department, the White House under Ronald Reagan, and finally serving the US Ambassador to Switzerland for numerous years. After retirement, she enjoyed many years working as a volunteer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in between her many travels abroad. Family, friends and faith were the foundation of her life. As a lifelong Roman Catholic, she practiced her faith daily, giving her the confidence to adapt to every challenge and change, never letting the unknown stop her. She met every new situation as an opportunity to build new friendships. She was a long-time member of the Children of Mary Sodality and Alumni of the Sacred Heart. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd. St. Benedict, LA 70457. Interment at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery will immediately follow mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marguerite's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or by calling (800) 805-5856.
