Mercedes Lapara Andry passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the age of 89. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana she lived in Bay St. Louis, MS for many years, before moving to Harahan, LA after Hurricane Katrina. Beloved wife of the late Edwin F. Andry, Sr. Loving mother of Edwin F. Andry Jr. (Diane), Thomas G. Andry Sr. (Deborah) and the late Kevin J. Andry. Grandmother to Eileen Andry, Edwin F. Andry III, Thomas G. Andry Jr., David Andry, Claire Andry, and John Andry. Preceded in death by her father John S. Lapara Sr. and mother Clarice Marquez Lapara; two brothers John S Lapara Jr. and Donald E. Lapara Sr. and her dog Rory. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren a host of cousins, nieces and a nephew. Mercedes and Edwin Sr. were married for 61 years prior to his passing in 2003. A homemaker most of her life she enjoyed teaching catechism at St. Claire's Catholic Church in Waveland. A devout Catholic, Merce or Maw-Maw Merce as she was called, loved life and everyone around her. She loved fishing with her husband and spending time with her loving grandchildren. Mercedes spent her final three years living at Colonial Oaks Living Center. Relatives, friends, employees of Colonial Oaks, and The Newtron Group are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time.
