Murrell Eugene Davis "Gene" entered Heaven's Gates on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the age of 90. Born and raised in Chattanooga, TN and a resident of the city he called home, New Orleans, for over 57 years. Beloved husband for 57 years of Sylvia Grosskopf Davis. Brother of Sally Davis Bailey and Peggy Davis Shavers and brother in law of Diane Mable Grosskopf. Loving father of Deborah Irene Moore and her husband Larry W. Moore; Gregory Eugene Davis, Sr. and his wife Stacey Maillard Davis; and, Mark Clyde Davis and his wife Michelle Vetter Davis. Grandfather of Lee Davis Corcoran, Gregory Eugene Davis, Jr., Jonathan Clyde Davis, Rebecca Irene Moore and Tyler Elliott Davis. Great Grandfather of Madison Rebecca Prichard and Cohen Wayne Harris. He proudly served his country in World War II in the 4th Marine Division from 1942 to 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He bravely fought the enemy on Guadal Canal, Solomon Islands, Saipan, Marinas Islands and Iwo Jima. He was a Purple Heart Recipient in addition to numerous other service awards.
