Warrene Suthon Obituary

Warrene Hayne Suthon passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014, at the age of 57, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Josephine Jason; ex-husband, Robert Jason; father, Walter J. Suthon, III; sisters, Sally Suthon and Elizabeth Woods (Cooper); and nephews Cooper and Foster Woods. She was preceded in death by her mother, Warrene Hayne Suthon. Hayne was born in New Orleans and attended Trinity Episcopal School and Metairie Park Country Day School. She graduated from Stephens College and Tulane Law School. In 1983, she moved to New York and received a Master's Degree in Tax Law from NYU. After a brief law career, she became a restauranteur. She opened Cave Canem in the East Village in 1987. She later launched Lucky Cheng's in 1993 and continued to operate it until her death. Hayne and her restaurants became legendary. She was a beloved fixture in New York's East Village. Though her life was cut short too soon, she lived it to the fullest. There will be a gathering in New York this week on her birthday and a memorial in New Orleans in July. Donations in her memory can be made to the cancer charity of your choice. Sorry to hear that Hayne has moved on. I lost touch with her throughout her sickness which I always felt bad about. But we enjoyed some memorable nights to say the least. RIP

Wow. I don´t know what made me think of Hayne today but I googled her and was saddened to hear she passed away.I was a cave canem regular back in the day. Good times. Wild times. She was a real hoot. Rest In Peace.

I worked with Hayne for many years at the 4th Circuit and my former husband worked with Walter at M & L. The Hayne I knew was always kind, generous, intelligent, beautiful, full of fun, loyal, caring and a genuine delight to be around. My condolences to her daughter and family.

My sincerest condolences to all of Hayne's New Orleans family and friends and to JoJo, family and friends in New York and all over the world. Hayne certainly was one of a kind, a true original, a bright star who is probably shining even brighter in the heavens. I'm so glad I knew her and I will always remember her. A toast to you, dear Hayne! Cheers!

Well our hearts are truly broken and it hardly seems possible that we can no longer communicate on this earthly plane as it was always such a pleasure spending time and sharing stories with Hayne Suthon. May God bring comfort to her sweet and devoted daughter, and surving loved ones. May family and friends embrace Josephine and help to support this great loss of her mother. Dearly Depatred Friend and Colleague, I will miss you forever!

Sweetheart, I know that wherever your spirit is , the party is on and you're at the center of it all. I have some fond memories of you through the years and will always cherish your incredibly funny wit. You were the absolute funniest woman I've ever known and definitely one of the very brightest. Your shoes will be hard to fill. You left a slipper behind at the ball of life; keep the other one with you until it's matching pair is returned. I love you heart and soul and will never forget the likes of Hayne Suthon. God bless and take care of you JO JO. Maybe your mom is scouting out the new terrain so she can start up a Paradise location for Lucky Cheng's. Now that would be cool and very Hayne-like and I expect her to be waiting someday with a complimentary drink at the door when I cross over and see her again. Take care and rest well my brave little angel; you've definitely earned your wings! -luv ya, DeNnYbOy-

HE Will Raise Her Up On Eagle's Wings,

Bear Her On The Breath Of Dawn,

Make Her To Shine Like The Sun,

And Hold Her In The Palm Of HIS Hand.
