Warrene Hayne Suthon

Warrene Hayne Suthon passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014, at the age of 57, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Josephine Jason; ex-husband, Robert Jason; father, Walter J. Suthon, III; sisters, Sally Suthon and Elizabeth Woods (Cooper); and nephews Cooper and Foster Woods. She was preceded in death by her mother, Warrene Hayne Suthon. Hayne was born in New Orleans and attended Trinity Episcopal School and Metairie Park Country Day School. She graduated from Stephens College and Tulane Law School. In 1983, she moved to New York and received a Master's Degree in Tax Law from NYU. After a brief law career, she became a restauranteur. She opened Cave Canem in the East Village in 1987. She later launched Lucky Cheng's in 1993 and continued to operate it until her death. Hayne and her restaurants became legendary. She was a beloved fixture in New York's East Village. Though her life was cut short too soon, she lived it to the fullest.
