Herbert John Lingoni, Jr, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Herbert was born in New Orleans and a resident of Metairie since 1985. He graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1946 to 1949 and the Air Force Reserve until 1952. He started working for the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad in 1953 where he retired in 1989 after 36 years of service. After retirement he assisted with bookkeeping and other tasks at his son's business, Advance Lock Company. The business was sold in 1995 and Herb stayed on and continued his duties there until September, 2013. Herb was a member of Congregation Gates of Prayer Synagogue and a Past President of Gates of Prayer Temple Brotherhood. He also was very much involved in the Masonic Fraternity. He was a member of John F. Purdy Lodge 396 F & AM. He later became a member and was Master of Fidelity Lodge 426, F & AM. He was a member and twice Master of Sam B. Dryfuse Lodge 396 F & AM and was also a District Deputy Grand Master of the 18th Masonic District. Herb enjoyed travelling with his loving wife of 52 years, the late Bridget Adler Lingoni. He also enjoyed dining out, visiting the casinos, sipping his chardonnay and watching old westerns on TV. He is survived by his two children, son David H. Lingoni (Melissa) and daughter Deborah Lingoni Stillman (Thomas) as well as two grandchildren, Dara and Slater Stillman. He is also survived by family friend and companion, Cheryl F. Ligon. Funeral services will be held at Gates of Prayer Synagogue, 4000 West Esplanade Ave., Metairie, LA on on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10:30 AM, with visitation beginning at 9:30 AM. Rabbi Robert Loewy will officiate. Interment to follow in Metairie Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. Memorial donations to Congregation Gates of Prayer preferred.
