William Aaron Butler was called home by God in the early morning of April 23, 2014. William was one of eleven children born to the union of the late Otis and Augustine Butler in Mandeville, LA. He is preceded in death by his wife Verna, son Charley Peter Butler, and grandson Dennis Mark Batiste, along with eight brothers and two sisters. William was the last living of that union. William was born and raised in Mandeville. He can be described as caring, loving, concerning, supportive, strong, friendly, kind, and an adviser. He was a member of First Free Mission Baptist Church. He attended Mandeville Rosenwald and was a Covington Rosenwald High School graduate and valedictorian of his class. He served in the Army. He was the co-owner with his wife Verna Clara Poole Butler of Butler's Barbershop and groceries in Covington for many years. He also drove school buses for St. Tammany Parish Schools. He worked at Southeastern Louisiana Hospital and retired after 20 years. As a carpenter, he built his family home in Mandeville. He was united in holy matrimony with Verna Clara Poole Butler in 1957 and to this union seven children were born. He leaves six children to cherish his memory, William Aaron Butler Jr. (Sharon) of Baton Rouge, Fannor Butler (Pamela) of Fredrick, Maryland, Casimir Butler, Paulette Batiste (Ollie Jr.), Felton Butler (Naomi) of Lacombe, and Mary White (Herbert) of Mandeville. One sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dolores Moore and her husband Charles Moore of Mandeville. Brother William also leaves nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends cherishing his memories. He had many friends however three very close friends; Mr. Edgar Faure, Mr. Samuel Sams, and Mr. Charles Moore who will miss him dearly. "I'm good." "I bet a fatman on that!" Family and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral service Tuesday, April 29 at Morning Star Baptist Church, 620 Lamarque St., Mandeville, LA. for 12 noon. Visitation will begin at 10 am and will continue until service begins. Interment immediately following service at Mandeville Cemetery.
