Harold Joseph Donaldson, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 2:30pm. He was born in McCall, LA, lived in Norco, LA, and presently in Springfield, LA. Preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Schexnayder Donaldson, for 44 years. Beloved husband of Linda Manis Donaldson for 26 years. Father of Robert "Bobby" Donaldson (Linda), Claudia D. Harris, and Carla D. Mancuso (Ricky); stepchildren Rex, Carlia, and Victor Palmer, Sherry Stears, and Tracey Arnold. He is survived by brother, Warren Donaldson of Norco, LA and preceded in death by sisters Gladys D. Schexnayder, Elaine D. Falgout, and brothers Gerald "Jack" and Roy Donaldson. Son of Felix and Milda Hernandez Donaldson. Grandfather of Jeremy Donaldson (Christy); stepgrandfather of Jinna James, Baylie Stears, and Brantly and Bryce Forbes. Great grandfather of Coral and Cole Donaldson, and Micah and Luke Nguyen. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a former POW captured in Italy May 12, 1944, and liberated on April 13, 1945. He was a very patriotic man and was a life member of several veterans' organizations: Baton Rouge chapter of X-POW's, Disabled Am. Vets. Ch. 50, Am Vets #68, VFW Post 4017, and American Legion Post 258. He enjoyed making vegetable gardens and had a love of country music. He learned to play guitar during his military service and enjoyed being on stage playing and singing his favorite songs. He retired from GATX in Good Hope, LA in 1985 as a Superintendent and then from Bayou Rail Car Svcs. in 1987. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Norco, LA on Friday May 16, 2014 at 11:00am. Visitation will be at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home, Norco, LA from 9:00am until service time. Interment immediately following at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum, Destrehan, LA. In lieu of flowers, Masses of donations to Veterans organizations preferred.
