Aura Melida de Leon, born June 26, 1925, in Guatemala. Daughter of the late Jose Romeo de Leon and Melida Mendez Montenegro. Sister of the late Jose Romeo de Leon Mendez and Ruth de Leon Villagran. Beloved mother of Ruth Sevin Johnson and husband, Neal, Aurita Sevin Ponsaa and husband, Wayne, Earl J. Sevin and wife, Katherine, and Michael P. Sevin and wife, Brigit. Grandmother of Christine E. Sevin and Joseph Romeo Sevin. Also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Aura graduated from Escuela Normal Central de Senoritas y Secundaria Anexa and L.S.U.N.O. before furthering her education at Tulane University, Loyola University and University of Madrid. She taught classes at T.H. Harris Junior High School and Riverdale High School, a founding parishioner and layman of Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, established the first Spanish speaking Masses at OLDP. She also volunteered at United Way and Archdiocese of New Orleans and was awarded the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church, 1000 N. Starrett Road, Metairie, La. 70003, on Monday, July 14, 2014, at 10:00 am with visitation at Church after 9:00 am. Inurnment in Lakelawn Mausoleum. Arrangements by Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 N.
