Sally Perret DeMatteo, 50, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in New Orleans on July 7, 1964, to Dr. William J. Perret and Verna Cook Perret, she is survived by her soul mate and husband of 24 years, Henry DeMatteo; two daughters Christina and Gabriella; her father, Dr. William J. Perret and stepmother, Joan Rodehorst Perret; 8 siblings, Mark Perret (Susan); Marie Perret (Rudy Cerone); Martha Socha (Robert); Stephen Perret (Lara), Andrew Perret (Kim); Gregory Perret (Lorena) all of New Orleans; Bill Perret (Kathy) of Indianapolis, IN, and Matthew Perret (Arlene) of Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her mother, Verna, and brother David (Dana). Sally was a parishioner of St. Rita Parish (New Orleans) and a graduate of Dominican High School and Loyola University. She was an employee of Tulane Medical Center for the last 25 years. Sally was an inspiration to her family, friends and everyone she came to know in the 50 years she was blessed to have in this life. She was a huge Saints fan and enjoyed gathering with family, friends, and neighbors at the locally acclaimed "Who Dat Hut" that she and her husband Henry established in their back yard to loudly cheer on her beloved Saints and the LSU Tigers. One of Sally's biggest joys was organizing and planning an annual trip for over 40 people to Destin, FL with her brothers and sisters, brother in law Sheva DeMatteo, dear friends Tina and Rick Harrold, Doug Gallo, Lauren Welch and all of their families. Sally knew no strangers and loved and accepted everyone she met. She lived a full and active life and was a true leader and role model. Sally was beloved by all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life. The family is deeply grateful to the staff at East Jefferson Hospital; Dr. Gurtler and her staff; sister, Martha Socha, an experienced oncology nurse who was at Sally's side throughout her long and courageous battle and who was a great source of comfort to Sally; as well as Sally's other caretakers who took turns staying with her every night-daughter, Christina; sister in laws, Gina Burke, Felicia Pigna and Lara Grice; niece, Sofia Bellini; and dear friends, Lisa Stahl, Mary Frances Rosamond and Tina Harrold. Visitation will be held at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m. and at St. Rita Church, 2729 Lowerline St., New Orleans, on Friday, August 1, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a Memorial Mass. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
