Rosa Mejia Valladares passed away peacefully at her home on August 15, 2014 in Kenner at the age of 102. Born in Santa Barbara, Honduras on September 3, 1911, she was preceded in death by her parents Federico and Florentina Mejia and her beloved husband Froilan. Rosita was a loving mother to Flor Alicia Evans and adoring grandmother to: Karl Dennis Moya (Linda); William Arol Evans, III (Gretchen); and Lynne Alicia Evans McMillen (Alexander); and 7 great-grandchildren: Brandon Karl Moya, Madison Rose Moya, Jackson Ulysses Evans, Waylon Karl Evans, Thomas Williamson Evans, Samuel William McMillen, and Cecilia Flor McMillen. Rosa will also be greatly missed by her extended family in Houston and throughout Honduras. Rosita was a genuinely compassionate person who had a warm heart and generous way that made everyone that was fortunate to meet her feel special. Rosa spent the first half of her life in Honduras as a social worker prior to moving to New Orleans 49 years ago. An avid proponent of exercise, she stayed active by walking, cooking traditional Honduran dishes, gardening, and making tamales and pastels during Christmas time. She volunteered for years at the New Orleans Botanical Garden. Visitation will be held on August 23, 2014 from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Church in Metairie followed by Mass.
