Bruce Reginald Hoefer

Bruce Reginald Hoefer, age 90, died April 20, 2015. He was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin on April 10, 1925, attended Dwight School in New York City, and graduated from Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY. He attended Yale University and graduated from The United States Naval Academy, class of 1947, as Lieutenant junior grade. After receiving his Masters in Business Administration in Marketing from Columbia University in 1953, he was specially trained in foreign languages at the Naval Intelligence School. He remained in the U.S. Naval Reserve for years. He was a former Commander of the Louisiana Commandery, Military Order of Foreign Wars. He owned and operated Bruce R. Hoefer Advertising covering the Gulf South. He had a love for tennis and he could be found on the tennis courts of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club weekly, when not traveling. He was a long time member of the Pickwick Club and was Founder and first President of The Essex Club of New Orleans. He traveled the world with his wife, and was versed in several foreign languages, played the mandolin and the piano, and enjoyed family trips to Destin. He was known for his dry humor and for being quite a gentleman. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mathilde Conway Farrell Hoefer, and three sons and two daughters, Mathilde Hoefer Leary (Joe), Bruce R. Hoefer, Jr. (Libby), Richard F. Hoefer, Jezznette Hoefer Wilcox (Jim), and Karl E. Hoefer (Lisa) and by eight grandchildren, Bruce III, Grace, Conway, Claire, Jim IV, Hayley, Margaux, and Karl Jr. He was predeceased by his parents Ernst Hoefer and Jezznette Frooks Hoefer, his brother Ernst Hoefer, Jr., and his sister Enid Hoefer Lowe. The family thanks his special care-givers for the kindness and loving attention they gave him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Christian Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 1:00 PM.
