Charles Scheffler Obituary

Charles Henry Scheffler, born August 5, 1947, left us on the afternoon of Saturday, February 13, 2016. He is the beloved husband of Linda Albert Scheffler for 45 wonderful years, and cherished father of daughter Valerie Scheffler. Nicknamed "Chuck" by his family as a child, he was preceded in death by parents Henry Scheffler and Ruth Langhoff Scheffler. Charlie was extraordinarily fortunate to have a lifelong friend in Francis Grosz. After beginning his 33 year long career at NOPSI, Charlie retired from Entergy in 2003. He was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area, attending Warren Easton High School and later graduating with a Master of Science in Engineering in 1975 from UNO. He was a Professional Engineer (PE) and life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Charlie was happiest when spending time with family and friends around water, especially during vacations to the Florida gulf coast beaches and in earlier years, at his family's Lake Pontchartrain camp. He took immeasurable pleasure in caring for the people in his life, always offering a helping hand to those around him. Charlie will be greatly missed by many, including a large extended family and numerous friends. A memorial service will be held at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. Inurnment will take place at a later date privately for the family. To view and sign the family guestbook, please visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

I worked at NOPSI and Entergy with Charlie. He was one of the smartest, honorable, sendible, respectful, honest, nicest and extremely good to work with people you could ever work with in any situation. I'm just learning of his passing today but share everyone's grief on his passing. I'm sure he is one if God's great generals in heaven and helping him with all of us as he did while on earth!!! My deepest sympathies to his family and friends for losing him and my blessings to all. He was truly the best example of a great guy to everyone and always the best help anyone could ask for and brillant as well!!

Charlie was a great engineer and friend. I will always remember lunches discussing everything from politics to engineering with him and my brothers. He is part of the reason I am an engineer today. Rest in peace my friend.

Bucks, words cannot describe how much I will miss you. For 33 years we worked side by side at NOPSI; you made every day a positive adventure. Even in retirement your presence continued; oh how I will miss our ride to Tchefunta Country Club with Eddie, Shelby, Walter, me, and of course you, Charlie, our workplace historian.
You were one of a kind.
Rest in Peace My Friend

Linda and Valerie,

You are in my thoughts and prayers. It's been a long time since we have seen each other, but I remember as a young child the times we spent at your house during the holidays sitting in front of your fireplace. I also have fond memories off going to the shooting range with Chuck and my Dad.

All my love and God Bless!

Charlie was an excellent engineer as well as friend. I will always remember the times he and my brothers and I spent discussing everything from religion to politics while at lunch. He had a way of explaining things that sometimes made you wonder if maybe, just maybe, you were wrong. I feel very fortunate to have known Charlie and he will be missed a great deal.

Dear Aunt Linda & Valerie,
My heart goes out to you both with the deepest of sympathy. Uncle Charlie made this world a better place & anyone whose life he touched happier. His legacy is caring, sharing, & keeping it fun. He treated people with respect & never passed up an opportunity to help even if it meant sacrifice on his part. He will be greatly missed. I hope to honor his legacy of caring & sharing by imitating him this way. Love you & here for you both.

Joan and I were Charlie's friend and coworker for a long time, and got to know how helpful he tried to be to everyone he knew or just met. We know Linda and Valerie will miss him very much and we pray they quickly find peace in adjusting their lives without sharing them with him.
