David Gabel

FREMONT: David Gabel, 77, of Fremont, died Monday night with his family by his side. He was born April 10, 1935 in Fremont the son of Roman and Ognet (Babione) Gabel, Sr.

He graduated from Jackson-Burgoon High School in 1953. He joined the US Marines right out of high school and was honorably discharged in 1955. Following serving his country, he married Mary Dudley Gabel at St. Mary's Church in Millersville, OH in 1959. David was co-owner of Gabel Brothers Construction for 25 years, later working at Carmeuse Lime in 1984, retiring in 1997. Mr. Gabel was a member of St. Joseph Church for many years, mainly being active in the RCIA. He was a former member of the Fremont Elks Lodge #169 and Fremont American Legion. David loved watching the Cleveland Browns and Indians. But most of all, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and activities that they were involved in.

He is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years, Mary Gabel of Fremont; children, Kevin (Jody) Gabel of Toledo, Todd (Ann) Gabel of Fremont, Mike (Susi) Gabel of Port Clinton, Amy (Tim) Tiell of Helena, Nick (Stacey) Gabel of Bowling Green, Beth (Tim Light) Gabel of Fremont; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandson; and anticipating the birth of another great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roman Gabel, Jr. and Lewis Gabel; sisters, Roseanne Wagner and Delene Gabel.

Calling hours will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 3-8PM at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St, Fremont, with a vigil service beginning at 7:30PM. A Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30AM Friday, October 12, 2012 at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
