Herman W. Rolf
FREMONT: Herman W. Rolf, 97, formerly of Gibsonburg, passed away early Friday morning, April 11, 2014, at the emergency room of Memorial Hospital. Herman was born in Pemberville on May 2, 1916, to Edward and Dora (Hanline) Rolf. He was a 1934 graduate of Gibsonburg High School.
Herman married Eleanor Hall on February 21, 1942, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Castalia. On July 9, 1942, he enlisted with the U.S. Army
Air Corps, and served in the China-Burma-India Theater. During his time in the Army Air Corps, Herman received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theater Service Medal, As-Pac Theater Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars
and the Victory Medal.
Herman was the owner of Gibsonburg Dry Cleaning for 16 years. He also worked as an insurance agent for Lutheran Brotherhood, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg where he served on many boards. He was also a member of the VFW
and assisted in the establishment of Lutheran Meadows as well as helping to form the first All School Reunion for Gibsonburg in 1994, which became the Gibsonburg Educational Foundation. His great pleasure was to enjoy retirement with his kids and grandkids.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 72 years, are children: Cheryl (John) Phalen of Fort Worth, TX, Todd (Sharon) Rolf of Columbus and Rex (Terri) Rolf of Highland Ranch, CO; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Zella Miller, Clinton Rolf, Norman Rolf, Donald Rolf and Fred Rolf.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Herman-Kinn-Veh Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Gibsonburg from 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg beginning at 10:30am with one hour visitation prior to service. Burial with military rites will follow at West Union Cemetery.
