Charles Boyer Obituary

Charles H. Boyer

FREMONT: Charles H. Boyer, 86, formerly of Bark Lane Drive, Fremont, ended his pilgrim journey in this world on July 30, 2011.

He was born in Fremont to Stanley S. Boyer and Ada E. (Mitchell) Boyer. He graduated from Ross High School in 1942 where he played the baritone in the marching band during his junior and senior years. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force 7th Photo Technical Squadron in India as a radio operator and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars.

He first attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio and later transferred to Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. On February 3, 1951, he married Betty M. Hedrick at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fremont. He first worked for several years in Toledo for Surface Combustion Corporation in their commercial air conditioning division as a design and erection engineer, and then in Clyde, Ohio for Whirlpool Corporation for 32 years in the product engineering and quality control departments.

He was a long-time member of Grace Community Church and served as financial secretary or treasurer for 22 years. He was also a member and treasurer of the Christian Businessmen's Committee, which sponsored outreach dinner meetings with celebrity speakers at the Holiday Inn in the 1960's.

Surviving along with his wife are children, Christina Tapia of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Nancy Boyer-Castro of Irvine, California; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A brother, James Boyer, is deceased.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 3 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Community Church, with Pastor Tim Wisehart officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery in Fremont, with military graveside honors performed by the American Legion and V.F.W. Memorials contributions may be made to Grace Community Church or the donor's choice. Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason was entrusted with the privilege of serving Charles's family.
