FREMONT: Cora Evelyn Michael, 97, of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Valley View Health Care Center.
She was born on April 24, 1916 in Ballville Township to William and Orley (Havens) Speller.
On June 22, 1933 she married A. C. Michael in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death on February 18, 1977.
Evelyn was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, the Federation of Women, Sandusky Township Mother's Study Club, Farm Bureau Chatter Box, and the Moose.
Those familiar with Evelyn know she was an avid card player who enjoyed competing with her sons and daughters-in-law until the early morning hours. She took part in many local card parties as well. She spent countless hours crocheting afghans and making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and donated afghans to nursing homes for many years. Evelyn also enjoyed bowling and golf and played in numerous leagues.
After Evelyn's children were grown, she had time to travel with her husband, sister and brother-in-law and ventured from the East Coast to the West Coast. After her dear travel companions all passed, Evelyn continued to travel with lady friends as far as Alaska and Hawaii.
Surviving are children, Clyde (Janet) of Lindsey, Wayne (Dee) of Fremont, Richard (Suzanne) of Fremont, David (Carol) of Fremont, and Bruce (Jane) of Oak Harbor; daughter-in-law, Carolyn of Fremont; 23 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Edward (Olga) Bowe and Bill (Jill) Bowe.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Douglas; daughters-in-law, Suzanne and Janet Sue; sister, Mildred Bowe; and brother-in-law, Paul Bowe.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 4-8 p.m. Services will be on Thursday at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church in Fremont at 10:30 a.m. with one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Contributions in Evelyn's memory may be made to the Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, Valley View Activities Department or Hospice of Memorial Hospital.
