Donald A. "Papa" Steinberger

FREMONT: Donald A. "Papa" Steinberger, 64, of Fremont, died on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born on October 15, 1947 in Fremont to Alexius and Bernadette (Poorman) Steinberger. Donald was a graduate of Green Springs High School. In 1968, he married Connie Butzin and she survives. Donald served in the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was an Agriculturist for Ohio & Michigan Sugar Beets, including Great Lakes and Pioneer Sugar for a number of years. He also worked as a machinist at Claus Cutlery and worked at Steinberger Implement. Donald was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he also served as choir director. He was a member of the Green Springs American Legion 295, 40 & 8, the Fremont VFW 2947, Eagles and the Moose. Donald was previously a 4-H Advisor, served on the Sandusky County Fair Board and was a cast member of the Fremont Community Theater. He enjoyed ALL social events in Fremont.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons: Eric "Foz" (Melanie) of Fremont and Kurt (Theresa) of Gibsonburg; grandchildren: Brandon, Logan, Shelby and Sienna; siblings: Rita (Joe) Moscioni, Bill (Linda) Steinberger, Carl (Linda) Steinberger, Betty (Bill) Obringer, Irene (Don) Ball, Tom (Debbie) Steinberger, Jim (Maureen) Steinberger, Ed (Rita) Steinberger, Aggie (Jeff) Mackey, Joe (Cathy) Steinberger, and Bob (Kathy) Steinberger. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Elizabeth Steinberger.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fremont where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Wednesday, September 5th at Sacred Heart Church at 11:30 a.m. with one hour of visitation starting prior to the service at church. Rev. Ken Lill will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and VFW.
