Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Wendt

MAUMEE: December 2, 2011 Betty Wendt, 90, passed away peacefully.
She was born in Weston, OH, to Charles and Olive (Stearns) Dickey. She graduated from Weston High School in 1939 and Bowling Green State University in 1943 with a degree in Home Economics and Education. She taught for one year at Whitehouse Village School then joined the Army as a cook in Ft. Des Moines, IA. She married Paul Wendt in 1948 and had three children, Charlie of Maumee, Jeri, (Jerry O'Kenka), of Perrysburg and Craig, (Cheryl), of Elmore. Her varied careers consisted of a Home Economist at the Edison Co., an employee in the fabric department at the Lion Store and a substitute teacher in the Maumee School District. Living on Craig Road in Maumee she was a founding member of "The Craig Road Gang", a group of very close and active friends. She spent summers raising Christmas trees in Gaylord, Michigan. Betty was a very creative and fun loving person who sewed all of her own clothes. She was an avid morel mushrooms hunter, great cook and enjoyed painting, golfing and bowling. Living most of her life in Maumee, they later moved to the family farm in Elmore.
Betty is survived by her brother, Bob Dickey; her children; and grandson, Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Wendt; and brother, Tom Dickey.
The past ten years of her life Betty suffered from Alzheimer's disease and was cared for at home.
A memorial service and luncheon will be held next Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Paul's Trinity United Methodist Church, 340 Toledo St., Elmore, OH at 11:30 a.m.
