Henry L. Bonnigson

FREMONT: Henry L. Bonnigson, 93, of rural Fremont, died at The Willows on Saturday, April 13, 2013.

"Hank" was born in Erie County on February 24, 1920 to the now deceased Carl and Edna (Justi) Bonnigson. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, a fact of which he was extremely proud.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sheid Road, Sandusky. Also a lifetime member of the Fremont VFW; the Green Springs American Legion; the Northern Ohio Draft Pony Assoc. He had served Green Creek Twp for many years and had held various positions, including Clerk and Trustee. He was a member of the Clyde Eagles and the 40/8.

Hank's greatest passion was raising and showing grey ponies with his family. He enjoyed playing cards twice a week with his buddies at the Riley Country Club. He loved to cook, especially bbq chicken. His best dance partner was his wife, Doris. They loved to travel to the Amish Country together and garden. He was grateful for being able to participate in the Honor Flight program.

Mr. Bonnigson had worked in agriculture all his long and productive life, having attended the GI School for Agiculture after WWII. He retiried as an USDA egg Inspector, he had also farmed; worked at the Eastern State, which became Ag-Way, where he worked in sales.

On February 7, 1948, he married the former Doris Camp. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2012.

Survivors include their seven children, Joanne (Joe) Frisch, Catawba Island, Karl (Patricia) Bonnigson, Fremont, Keith Bonnigson (Jamie Drossman), Bellevue, Jeanne (Ken) Mathias, Burgoon, Kenneth (Jen) Bonnigson, Clyde, Grace (Chris) Leichty, Green Springs and Mary (Tim) Myers, Fremont; 17 grandchildren, five step grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; along with three sisters, Doris (Clarence) Rahrig, Norwalk, Ruth Deehr, Berlin Heights and Irma Moon, Berlin Heights also survive.

Hank was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Faye Bonnigson, who died in 1945; an infant brother, William; and two grandchildren, Carl and Kirsten Bonnigson.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 1-4:00 PM and 6-8:00 PM at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 South Main St., Clyde, Ohio. The funeral will be on Wed., April 17, 2013 at 10:30 AM with visitation being one hour prior, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Sheid Road, Sandusky with the Rev. Bill Hlavin officiating. Burial will be in Bakertown Cemetery, with military rites.

Memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church, Sheid Road or Memorial Hospice.
