Mary Catherine "Katie" Shelley
BELLEVUE: Mary Catherine "Katie" Shelley, age 89, of Bellevue passed away, Monday, July 16, 2012 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was born May 26, 1923 in Bellevue the daughter of the late Martin & Barbara (Ruffing) Briehl.
Kate was a housewife and also a substitute teacher.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, St. Jude Study Club, Lyme Extension Club, York School PTO, and a Weight Watchers leader for over 15 years. She enjoyed reading, sewing and baking, but most of all spending time with her family.
Survivors include her sons, Tom (Tatiana) Shelley of Ithica, NY, Paul (Diane Downie) Shelley, Jr. of Lakewood WA, Mark Shelley of Piedra, CA, John (Julie) Shelley of Tomahawk, WI, Jim (Nancy) Shelley of Bellevue, Marty (Jackie) Shelley of Bellevue, Peter (Robin) Shelley of Painesville, OH; daughters, Mary (Terry Hansen) Shelley of Clyde and Anne (Chuck Stein) Shelley of Clyde; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Schafer of Phoenix, AZ, Ruth Sheahan of Fairfield, CT and Alice Schmude of Anacortes, WA.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Paul Shelley, Sr., whom she married June 9, 1945 at the Sorrowful Mother Shrine; and her brother Martin Briehl, Jr.
Friends will be received on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from Noon -3 & 6-8 p.m. at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center St., Bellevue, OH.
Memorials may be made to The Bellevue Public Library, Hospice of Memorial Hospital, or Immaculate Conception Church.
