Samuel R. Hammons

FREMONT: Samuel R. Hammons, 87, of Lime St., Fremont passed away at home on Thursday, June 28, 2012. He was born on April 6, 1925 in Barbourville, KY, the son of Matt and Maggie (Smallwood) Hammons.

Samuel served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 as a Truck Driver and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

Samuel married Beulah Porter and she survives. He worked for Ford Motor Company and retired in 1987 after thirty-one years of service. Samuel was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved John Wayne and being with his family and grandchildren.

Samuel is survived by his wife, Beulah Hammons, Fremont, OH; children, Patsy (Bob Snyder) Estep, Port Clinton, OH, Sam (Diane) Hammons, Jr., Fremont, OH, Joan Miller, Clyde, OH, Gladys (Wayne) King, Fremont, OH, Maggie (David) Beckley, Donna (Bob) Miller, Russell (Victoria) Hammons, all of Clyde, OH, Raymond (Deb) Hammons, Roy (Amanda) Hammons both of Tiffin, OH, Heather (Ted) Hammons, Fremont, OH; siblings, Eve Hammons, Liz Mills and Ray Hammons; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Nancy (Frost) Hammons, Mary Ellen (Golamb) Hammons; daughter, Christina Hammons; son, Cory Hammons, great grandson, Dana Dorsey IV; brothers, Burt, Charlie and Clinton Hammons.

Visitation: Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH. Service: Monday, July 2, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, OH with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.
