FREMONT: Shirley A. Keating, 88, of Fremont, died Tuesday night at Countryside Continuing Care Center. She was born April 26, 1924 in Fremont the daughter of Charles F. and Lucy (Strausbaugh) Keating.
Miss Keating was a 1942 graduate of Ross High School and a 1945 graduate of St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She later went on to receive her Bachelor's degree at Mary Manse College (RN) and her Master of Public Health from the University of Michigan. Shirley was a public health nurse through the Sandusky County Health Department and a nurse consultant for Migrant Health Services for the Ohio Department of Health. Miss Keating was also a proud member of the Cadet Nurse Corps; during WWII stationed in Marion, Indiana. Shirley was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, St. Vincent's Alumni Association, University of Michigan Alumni Association, American Nurses Association, and Ohio State Nurses Association.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; great- nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Patrick (Mercedes), Thomas (Rhea), Charles; sisters, Elizabeth (Donald) Wonderly, Mary Lou (William) Smith, and infant sister Mary Jane.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:30AM at St. Ann's Church with Rev. Michael Zacharias officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30A.M. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Ann's Cemetery.
