Vincent G. Koebel

FREMONT: Vincent G. Koebel, 84, of Fremont, died early Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Countryside Continuing Care Center. He was born on July 13, 1926 in Fremont to George and Olive (McClure) Koebel.

Vince was a 1947 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He attended Bowling Green State University for the regional fire schools and he also attended Ohio State University. On October 23, 1948 he married Vivian Brokate at Grace Lutheran Church and she survives. Vince was a veteran and served in the Navy during WWII. Vincent was a fireman on the Fremont Fire Department for 34 years, was a driver for the Birchard Public Library bookmobile "Old Betsy" for 29 years and had been the custodian at Grace Lutheran Church for 11 years. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW. Vince enjoyed golfing, yard work, and helping his children.

Surviving are children, Peg (Jack) Kreilick of Fremont, Georgia (David) Clapp of Cranberry Township, PA, Richard (Kathy) of Brookville, OH, Nancy (Jon) Smith and Andrea (Rick) Lehmann, both of Fremont; brother, Alben (Betty) Koebel of Fremont; thirteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Brad V. Koebel.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 26th from 6-8 p.m. at the Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service. Pastor James Avers and Pastor Nancy Smith will officiate. Burial will be at McGormley Cemetery with military rites by the VFW and American Legion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or Grace Lutheran Church in Vincent's memory.

Mr Koebel made my visits to Betsy the Bookmobile most enjoyable back in the 60's at Croghan school. He was a swell guy who always had a smile on his face. I think he might have also came with Mr Hampshire to show us the firetruck. Thanks Mr Koebel

I worked with Vince at Birchard Library. I never got to know him well because of the different hours we worked, but I do know that he was a very kind man and treated everyone with care and respect. You have my deepest sympathy.
