Bertha L. (Turpin) Green
GARY, WV: Bertha L. (Turpin) Green, 95, of Gary, West Virginia, and formerly of Fostoria, went to be with her Lord at 9:25 p.m., Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gary, West Virginia. Bertha was born on December 22, 1915 in RockHouse, West Virginia (Kimball, West Virginia), to the late William and Rebecca (Workman) Church.
She first married Rev. King Turpin Jr., in Kimball WV, on December 26, 1932 and he preceded her in death on November 29, 1977, she later married Hobart Green in Parisburg, VA on March 31, 1980 and he also preceded her in death on August 23, 1990.
Survivors include her children, James (Betty) Turpin of Princeton, WV, Robert (Lillie) Turpin of Burgoon, OH, Melvin (Linda) Turpin of Skygusty, WV, Douglas (Joya) Turpin of Fostoria, OH, Roger Turpin of Kansas, OH, Kathryn (Wiley) Graham of Kansas, OH, Alice Hatfield of Elbert, WV, Theresa (Johnnie) McPhail of Gibsonburg, OH, Linda Holcomb of Kansas, OH, Sandra (David) Young of Leesburg, AL; step-children, Pauline Davis of Ridgeway, VA, Gladie Kemp of Colonial Heights, VA, Cledas Albertson of Bridgetown, NJ; a brother, Boyd Church of Linside, WV; eighty grandchildren; one hundred sixty-seven great-grandchildren; and sixty-three great-great-grandchildren.
Bertha was a homemaker and a member of the Rock Solid Church of God in Kansas, OH where she was active with the Ladies Ministry.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; son, Wayne Turpin; step-children, Jack Turpin, Virginia Burks, Lorene Musick; brothers, James Church, Claude Church; sisters, Viola Ackers and Sylvania Willard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington Street, Tiffin, OH 44883,(419) 447-1221, with Pastor Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services on Tuesday at Knollcrest cemetery in Arcadia.
