Margaret Spieldenner

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL: Margaret Spieldenner, 90, of Port Charlotte, FL passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at her home.

She was born October 7, 1920 in Oak Harbor, OH, the daughter of Irvin "Gus" and Nellie (Sullivan) Gonya. Margaret was a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, Fremont, OH. On April 14, 1941, she married Edmund A. Spieldenner, at St. Joseph Church and raised eleven children together. He preceded her in death days before their 69th anniversary on April 2, 2010. In Addition to raising eleven children, Margaret owned and operated an interior design and toy store for years in both Fostoria and Tiffin and she continued as a decorator in Sandusky, OH. In the early 70's, Margaret was a pioneer in the Right to Life movement in Sandusky and was instrumental in helping many young mothers during their pregnancies and after their deliveries. In Sandusky Margaret also worked with a group of pre-adolescent boys as a loving guide. After their move to Florida in 1978, she and her husband opened a congregate living home to care for the frail elderly, which they operated for over 20 years. She will be sorely missed by many.

She is survived by her children, Lawrence Spieldenner, Port Charlotte, FL, Robert (Lien) Spieldenner, San Diego, CA, Richard (Bonnie) Spieldenner, Albion, ME, Kathleen (Alan) Szucs, Amherst, OH, Eugene (Pam) Spieldenner, Burlington, VT, Patrick (Karen) Spieldenner, Port Charlotte, FL, Michael (Sarah) Spieldenner, Brooklyn, NY, Christopher Spieldenner, Port Charlotte, FL, Maureen (Craig) Barton, Half Moon Bay, CA and Mark Spieldenner, Port Charlotte, FL; daughter-in-law, Victoria Spieldenner, Port Charlotte, FL; sister, Helen Rusch; brother, Robert Gonya both of Fremont, OH; over 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edmund Spieldenner; son, Timothy; and daughter, Theresa Spieldenner; brothers, Irvin, Russell and John Gonya.

Visitation: Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420. Service: Saturday, June 4, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 709 Croghan St., Fremont with Fr. James Say officiating. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont, OH.
