Betty Jane (Behlmer) Schmidt

GIBSONBURG: Betty Jane Schmidt, 86, of Gibsonburg, formerly of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Park Cliff Community in Toledo.

She was born January 21, 1926, in Oak Harbor to Dietrich and Clara (Sehlmeyer) Behlmer. On June 14, 1946, in Oak Harbor she married Richard J. Schmidt and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2001. Betty worked at the Erie Army Depot and for 18 years as a supervisor at the former Uniroyal-USCO in Port Clinton. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor and the church's Miriam Circle. Her other memberships included AARP and NARFE, the Ottawa County Democratic Club, Women of the Moose Lodge #281 of Port Clinton, and the VFW #8732 Auxiliary in Oak Harbor, where she was a charter and life member and served as past president.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. (Richard) Carper of Gibsonburg; five grandchildren: Perry (Stacie) Carper, Jody (Thomas) Angelone, Christopher (Julie) Carper, Angela (Benjamin) Wittman, and Ryan (Mashala) Lorentz; 11 great grandchildren: Andrew, Jon, Derek Angelone, Trevor & Lathan Wittman, Ava Lorentz & Shea Lawson, Kyle & Justin Carper, Jai Williams & Austin Buentello, and one on the way, brother, Donald (Betty) Behlmer of Fremont; and special friend "Poochie".

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick; daughter, Linda J. Lorentz; brother, Kenneth Behlmer; and sister, Delores Tornow.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church 122 W. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, with interment to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery.
