FREMONT: Catherine R. "Kay" Schneider, age 90, of Fremont passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013 at Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs, Ohio.
Catherine was born on March 21, 1923 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of William and Nellie (Bauman) Martin. She graduated from Sandusky High School at age 16 where she played piano in the school dance orchestra. She worked for New Departure in Sandusky until she married Gerald C. Schneider from Fremont on October 27, 1951. They were joined in marriage by Catherine's brother, the Reverend William Martin, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sandusky. Gerald passed away on September 13, 1987.
Catherine was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, Daughters of Isabella, and Padre Pio prayer group. She was also a member of the Friendly Singles group and the Croghan Street Garden Club. Catherine worked for the Fremont Federal Credit Union, the Employment Bureau, and Gries Seed Farms. She was a volunteer at the Food Pantry, Soup Kitchen, SJCC cafeteria, and Valley View Healthcare Center. She enjoyed music, bowling, and gardening and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Faith and family were most important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Marjorie Orchekowski; and brother, Reverend William Martin.
She is survived by children, Gregory Schneider of Tucson, Arizona, Gerald (Karen) Schneider of Hardwick, Vermont, Cathryn (Jeff) Blohm of Fremont, Susan (Dave) Rodriguez of Lexington, Kentucky, Deborah Schneider of Missoula, Montana, Sara (Mike) Barsotti of Burlington, Vermont; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 4-8 PM at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch St., Fremont, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:30PM. A Mass of Resurrection will be Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jacob Gordon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
