Barney Freeman Obituary

Barney J. Freeman Sr.

KANSAS: Barney J. Freeman Sr., 84, of Kansas, went to be with his lord and savior at 9:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Heart Center in Toledo.

Barney was born on November 25, 1928 in Wise Virginia, to the late Rev. Gordon and Martha Ellen (Bateman) Freeman. He married Norma (Kordeleski) in Kansas on October 22, 1994 and she survives.

Survivors include his children, Barney J. Freemans Jr. of Bowling Green, Joe S. (Diane) Freeman of Bowling Green, Shane J. (Paula) Freeman of South Amherst, Scott Cameron, Robin Cantrell both of Lorain, Julie (Rich) Greiner of Kansas, Donna (Harold) Lane of Richmond, VA, Sandra Bentley of Bristol, TN, Brandy Stearns of Port Clinton; 27 grandchildren, 13 grandchildren; a brother, Rev. Joe (Lois) Freeman of Garret, IN; three sisters, Christine (Jay) Starnes of Vermillion, Jeanette (Hubert) Cooke of Churchill, TN, Doris (Tommy) Wells of Bristol, TN; and Barney's first wife, Simone Stewart of Bowling Green.

Barney worked as an Auto Mechanic and played in a band called the Freeman Family Singers and also played in the Jetones. Barney was an avid fisherman and spent many happy hours at the Huron river in Milan, Barney enjoyed hunting and was the state record holder of Coho Salmon in Ohio. Barney enjoyed watching wrestling, Nascar, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and setting in the sun. Barney was a United States Navy Veteran serving during WWII.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Scott, Brad and Daniel Freeman; four brothers, Ruford, Ralph, Paul and Darrell Freeman; two sister-in-laws, Norma and Wilma Freeman.

A memorial service for Barney will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Kansas United Methodist Church with Pastor Benny Fitch officiating. There will be no visitation or burial held at this time.

The Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Bettsville is assisting the family with their arrangements.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family. On-line condolences may be left for the family at www.engleshookfuneralhome.com.
