George Bauer Obituary

George W. Bauer Jr., 95, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Newark, N.J., and was a chemist for Crucible before moving to Elizabethtown to continue at Colt Industries until his retirement.

George was a member of St. James Catholic Church since 1965. He enjoyed music all his life and he sang bass in choirs at St. Benedict's in Newark, St. Catherine's in Hillside, N.J., and St. James in Elizabethtown. He spent hours listening to his favorite operas, marches, ballets and symphonies on records, radio and compact disc.

George was an avid baseball fan since his youth and would take his sons to see the Yankees, Dodgers and Giants in New York City, as well as watch games on TV.

He was loved by all and his many stories of Newark and Cliffwood Beach, N.J. will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann; one son, Michael; and three sisters, Kathryn Blanchard, Bernice Leila Healey and Alice Miller.

He is survived by one sister, Ann Heres of Neptune, N.J.; three sons, George W. Bauer III (Rene) of Elizabethtown, Rudolph Norsic Bauer (Andi) of Sequim, Wash., and Daniel Edward Bauer of Louisville; four grandsons, George IV (Janet), Daryl (Mary), and Gavin (Lauren) all of Lexington, and Christopher (Shaunna) of Sequim; and one granddaughter, Kimberly King (Josh) of Sequim; fifteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special friends and caregivers, Margaret Ivey, David Carwile, and Saundra Dillon.

The funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial follows in St. James Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation is from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Will always have the fondest memories of our Uncle George. We have beautiful photos in our baby albums taken by him. Leila and I were remembering every Easter he would come over with the Bauer Boys and take our pics with our Easter baskets. Many a melted bunny on our white gloves. Remember his beautiful singing voice and the plays at St. Catherines. All the family parties and the famous New Year's Eve parties hosted by Grandpa and Grandma Bauer. I also remember him helping Grandpa with his big vegetable garden. We are luck to have all these great memories. Love and condolence to all the Bauer family. Lovingly, your cousins, The Healeys.
