Avery, Francis Cardin - Elizabethtown  
Frances Cardin Avery, 84, of Elizabethtown, wife of James Russell Avery, departed this life for a new life on Dec. 12, 2014. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was active in Gilead Baptist Church. She was a daughter of Shelby Cardin and Ruth Tabb, born in Sonora on Jan. 26, 1930. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen; her parents; and two brothers, James Cardin and Harvey 'Monk' Cardin. Frances is survived by her husband, Russell Avery; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Robert) Duggins; a son, Craig (Dori) Avery of Nicholasville; a daughter, Jane (Warren) Clifford of Elizabethtown; and five grandchildren, Shelby (Mandy) Avery of Lexington, Jill Avery (Shawn) Young, Luke (Bailey) Avery, all of Nicholasville, and Leslie Clifford (Dean) Smith and Jason Clifford, all of Elizabethtown; as well as seven great-grandchildren. The family deeply appreciates the many caregivers who aided Frances through her struggles with Alzheimer's. Barkes, Richard R. - Elizabethtown  
Richard R. Barkes, 84, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Elizabethtown Nursing & Rehab Center. Survivors include his wife, Joan Lucille Barkes; four sons, Rick Barkes, David Sumner, Robert Sumner and James Sumner; five daughters, Tammy Moran, Kim Sumner, Carolyn Sumner-Corbett, Deborah Heckler and Pam Sumner-Lee; and two brothers, Sonny Barkes and Eddie Barkes. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec.12, at Percell & Sons Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. Berwanger Dareing, Helga - Elizabethtown  
Helga Berwanger Dareing, 55, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Landau, Germany, and a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. She was a hotel concierge at IHG and was a dedicated worker, loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Annalise Berwanger. Survivors include two sons, Robert Romano and Kenneth Dareing, both of Elizabethtown; one daughter, Diana Sterling of Port Orchard, Washington; four grandchildren, Kaden, Kaleb, Kylie and Kyndall; one brother and two sisters. The funeral is at noon Saturday at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff with the Rev. Dennis Cousins officiating. Burial follows in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Brooks, Chester Duren - Rineyville  
Chester Duren Brooks, 94, of Rineyville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born in Butler County and retired from Fort Knox as a civil service employee. Chester was a veteran of World War II. He was also a long time member of White Mills Christian Church. Chester was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Brooks; father, Ardie Brooks; mother, Ettie Martin Brooks; a son, Duren Brooks; a daughter, Delores Brooks; two brothers, J.C. Brooks and Paul Brooks; and a half-brother, Earl Swift. Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret Brooks of Rineyville; two sons, Richard (Sandy) Brooks of Elizabethtown and Jay (Shana) Brooks of Glendale; three daughters, Anna Sue (Joe) Crutcher of Hodgenville, Carol (James) Sherrard of Elizabethtown and Carolyn (Ron) Campbell of Bagdad; a sister, Frances Adkins of Hampton, Virginia; half-sister, Anna Pearl Jamison of Scottsville; two stepchildren, Douglas Ray Key Sr. of Elizabethtown and Norma Jean Wilson of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren and12 great-grandchildren, Chester and his first wife Mabel were foster parents to 27 children, two of the foster children are Michael Duvall and Donnie Keith, both of Elizabethtown. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Buddy Brooks officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Caines, Trudy A. - Radcliff  
Trudy A. Caines, 67, of Radcliff, passed away Satur­day, Dec. 13, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospi­tal in Elizabethtown. She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Vine Grove. She was a graduate of the first nursing class at Elizabethtown Community College and then after earning a bachelor's degree, she worked 40 years for Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Catherine Pike Redmon; and a brother, Thomas Redmon. Survivors include her husband, Mark Caines of Radcliff; three daughters, Deidre "Deedie" Day and her husband, Terry, of Munfordville, Leanne Farmer of Elizabethtown and Paulette Oakes and her husband, Denny, of Somerset; 11 grandchildren, Kelsey, Logan, Cam, Aly, Grace, Lydia, Beth, Eli, Victoria, Lillian and Clara; her father, Charles Adrian "Brick" Redmon of Flaherty; eight siblings, Harry and Linda Redmon of Flaherty, Delaine and Gene Streible of Vine Grove, Steve and Brenda Redmon of Flaherty, Mark and Gayla Redmon of Brandenburg, Glenn and Kaye Redmon of Garrett, Danny and Theresa Redmon of Garrett, Ricky Redmon of Flaherty and Sharon and David Pace of Brandenburg; several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Caines is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Vine Grove with the Rev. Daniel Lincoln officiating. Burial follows in St. Martin Cemetery in Flaherty. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continues after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Coffey & Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Chaney, Norma Jean - Elizabethtown  
Norma Jean Chaney, 81, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Bullitt County and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, talented artist and quiltmaker and was a dedicated volunteer for the Association for Retarded and Handicapped of Har­din County for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Toney Chaney Jr.; her parents, Cornelius William and Lillie Mable Coy; and two brothers, Earl Coy and Charles Coy. She is survived by three sons, Anthony William (Pamela) Chaney of Manassas, Virginia, and Vincent Wayne Chaney and James Phillip (Maria) Chaney Sr., all of Elizabethtown; one brother, Royce Coy of Waterloo, Illinois; two sisters, Magdelene Hornung of Louisville and Ramona Sue (Samuel Lindsey) Croan of Shepherdsville; five grandchildren, Anthony Chaney, Phillip Aaron Chaney, James Phillip Chaney Jr., Cameron Chaney and Mallory Chaney; and three great-grandchildren, Trey Chaney, Karington Chaney and Caedmon Chaney. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Brown Funeral Home with Brother Doug Mitchell officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Clark, Helen Lucille - Hodgenville  
Helen Lucille Clark, 102, of Hodgenville, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at her residence. She was a member of Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church, a farmer, a homemaker and an accomplished quiltmaker. Helen had a vast collection of redbirds and she loved tending to her flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Clark; her father and mother, Smith George Bayne and Calla Goff Bayne Shelton; her stepfather, Clifton Shelton; a granddaughter, Shelia Whitlock; a grandson, Steve Potts; two sons-in-law, Stanley Viers and Jack Jones; six sisters and a brother. Survivors include four daughters, Geneva Vi­ers, Doris Jones and Betty (Herman) Allen, all of Hodgenville, and Zelma (Davis) Potts of Wood­lawn, Tennessee; a son, LeRoy (Bonni) Clark of Hodg­enville; a brother-in-law, Edgar Bell of Hodg­enville; 11 grandchildren, Dennis and Carl Viers, Kathy Cooper, Danny, Clark and J.P. Potts, Melinda Ross, Larry Jones, Cindy Ford, Troy Allen and Doug Clark; several great- and great-great-grandchildren. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Ben­nett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with the Revs. Andrew Singh, Wallace Votaw and Danny Potts officiating. Crowell, Frank Eugene - Elizabethtown  
Frank Eugene Crowell, 86, earned his angel wings on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Malden, Massachusetts. At the age of 17, he entered the U.S. Army. The military career of 1st. Sgt. Crowell included tours in Italy, Korea, Germany, Fort Jackson, North Carolina, Fort Hood, Texas, and he retired at Fort Knox. He loved his country and was proud of his service contributions. Survivors include his wife, Claudette Ford Crowell of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Gloria (Jim) Yates of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sons, David (Dong Hee) Crowell of Olympia, Washington, Mike (Roberta) Crowell of Kansas City, Missouri, and Rob (Kathy) Crowell of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; three step children, Andrea (Chris) Meyer of Elizabethtown, Clint Kasinger, and Matt (Stephanie) Kasinger, all of Owensboro; five step grandchildren; and his sister, Alice (Bobby) DiPetro of Massachusetts. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at the Main Post Chapel, Fort Knox. Burial follows at 11 a.m. in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. Enlow, Dewey Wayne - Hodgenville  
Dewey Wayne Enlow, 75, of Hodgenville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at 5:32 a.m. at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. He was a 1957 graduate of Buffalo High School, a U.S. Army veteran, and a 1998 retiree of the U.S. Postal Service in Hodgenville as a letter carrier and postal clerk with more than 30 years total in government services. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, University of Kentucky sports fan and Cincinnati Reds fan. He also was a member of B.R. Young Lodge No. 132 F&AM in Hodgenville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Virginia Enlow; and a granddaughter, Gabrielle Enlow. He is survived by his loving wife of 54½ years, Juanita Thomas Enlow; a son, Mike (Shannon) En­low of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Susan (Pat) Vowels of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Paige and Hailey Enlow and Brock and Mallory Vowels; a sister, Carol (Kenneth) Thomas of Hodgenville; a brother, Joe (Vicky) Enlow of Hodgenville; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral is at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville with the Revs. Gary Hendrickson, Carlton Puryear and Cory Murashige officiating. Burial follows in Red Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and continues after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
