Hornback, Mrs. Elizabeth - Okolona  
Mrs. Elizabeth Hornback, 89, of Okolona returned to her Heavenly Father on Dec. 20, 2014. Mrs. Hornback was a homemaker and a member of Okolona Church of Christ. Among those that preceded her in death are her husband, Eugene Horn­back; son, James Hornback; daughter, Laura Hornback; and brother, Clifford Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Doris Simpson, Betty Lucas and Jeanette Clem; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. The funeral is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Highway at Brooks Road; use John Harper entrance) with interment in Hardin Memorial Park in Elizabethtown. Kerr, Chester - Elizabethtown  
Chester Kerr, 90, of Elizabethtown, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at his residence in Elizabethtown. He was a farmer and a member of Olive Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dillia Hodge Kerr; five brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his loving wife, Margie Gibson Kerr of Elizabethtown; three sons, Timmy Kerr, Danny (Imogene) Kerr and Jonathan Kerr, all of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Childress of Hodgenville; two granddaughters, Kayla (Lee) Goodman of Cecilia and Hope (Jason) Arterburn of Thompkinsville; a grandson, Kyle Childress of Hodgenville; two great-granddaughters, Peyton Goodman and Raelynn Goodman, both of Cecilia. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Olive Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Sonora with the Rev. Phillip Sallee and the Rev. Ralph Jenkins officiating. Burial follows in Williams Family Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continues at 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora. McFarlin II, Nelve P. "Mac"  
Our beloved Nelve P. McFarlin, known to all as "Mac," joined the Army of the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014. Mac proudly served in three wars for his country, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He received two Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and many service ribbons and awards. In World War II, Mac was wounded while serving in the Golden Acorn 87th Infantry Company K known as the "Fighting Terrible 20" at the Battle of the Bulge. He served in Korea and Vietnam with the 522nd and 272nd military police units. On Aug. 31, 1968, Mac retired from the 543rd Military Police at Fort Knox. His assignments were varied and his duty stations ranged from the Tennessee National Guard and Vienna cold war checkpoints, to France, New York, New Jersey, Georgia and Kentucky. Mac worked hard every day. He loved farming and farm animals and wanted to be outdoors daily, often including his family in his adventures. He was a musician, avid wildlife and bird watcher and a great storyteller. After retirement from the military, he was a heavy equipment owner/operator and was employed seven years by Fort Knox Community Schools. Mac was born in Hickman County, Tennessee. After his military career, he retired to Vine Grove, where he was active in the community. He visited local schools on Veterans Day and most recently was grand marshall of the 2014 Autumn Daze Parade. Mac is survived by his wife of 69 years, Illa Mai (Deal) McFarlin, who he married in Tennessee in 1945. He is beloved by a daughter, Shela (David Redmond); a son, Nelve P. McFarlin III "Mac" (Linda Ray); granddaughters, Jessica McFarlin and Allison Scherer (Shaun Scherer) and their children, Ella and Clayton; and by his extended family including his brother, Melvin, and sister, Evelyn. He will be missed by his two favorite pets, Buford the collie and Otis the cat. The funeral is at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Valley View Baptist Church in Vine Grove with Dr. R. Shawn Edwards officiating. Burial with military honors follows in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and continues after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to Hosparus of Central Kentucky or to your favorite charity in his name.
