Clifford Junior "Cliff" Countryman

Clifford Junior ""Cliff"" Countryman, 87, of Elizabethtown, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Woodland Terrace.

He was a native of Watertown, N.Y., served a combined 43 years in the U.S. Army and civil service, which included World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired after 20 years as a postal clerk for the Elizabethtown Post Office. He was a past master of Morrison Masonic Lodge No. 76 F&AM and Dachau Lodge No. 887 in Dachau, Germany. He also was active in the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, Kosair Shrine Temple and was a 33rd degree Mason. He was a former Chapter Dad of Gold Fidelity Demolay and a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Elfrieda Irene Jesse Countryman; his second wife of six years, Mary Alice Snider Countryman; his parents, George and Lois Countryman; and his be-loved brother, Herbert Countryman, who was re-ported missing in action in France in 1944.

He is survived by a son, Peter John Countryman of Elizabethtown; and his trusted cat ""Speedy.""

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Thom Wicker officiating. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Masonic service is at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
