Douglas James Painter, 45, of Elizabethtown, went to be with his Mom and Dad in Heaven on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Louisville.
He was a native of Elizabethtown. He loved model-making, was an avid train and military history enthusiast and enjoyed metal detecting. He always sent uplifting messages on Facebook to his friends and family. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and an avid University of Louisville fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond T. Painter and Agnes Minnie Lloyd Cofer.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Burgess Painter; three brothers, Danny (Judy) Painter of New Haven, Dale (Debbie) Painter of Elizabethtown and David (Carmen) Painter of Stephensburg; his mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law, Maggie and Sam Turner of Elizabethtown; his father-in-law, David Burgess of Elizabethtown, his sister-in-law, Chelsea Turner of Elizabethtown; his nieces and nephews, Leah and John Painter, Dustin and Lindsay Painter, Jonathan and Madeline Burgess and Hannah and Wyatt Turner; and his cat, Diesel.
A memorial service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Cremation was chosen.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
