Eddie Carroll Akers, 72, of Sonora, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sonora, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a U.S. Navy
veteran and served for three years as an air traffic controller on the USS Enterprise. He retired as a foreman for General Electric for 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Tabb Akers; and his parents, Powell Barlow (Boss) and Kathleen (Kat) Smith Akers.
He is survived by a son, Joe Akers of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Elizabeth (Kenny) Akers of Mount Sherman; a brother, Larry (Alice) Akers of Sonora; six grandchildren, Lindsey Akers, Kendrick Akers, Ashley Akers Arredondo, McKenna Akers, Wesley Akers and Katy Akers; two great-grandchildren, Dalton Akers and Connor Arredondo; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. today at Manakee Funeral Home in Sonora with the Rev. Tony Carson officiating. Burial follows in Sonora Cemetery.
Visitation continues at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
