Elbert "Bert" Daugherty

Elbert "Bert" Daugherty died Friday, July 26, 2013, at his home in Lewisville, N.C.

Born in Campbellsville, Bert graduated from Campbellsville High School where he excelled in basketball being named a Kentucky All-Star. He attended Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where he was named MVP. He served his Lord and his church faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon and member of numerous committees.

Additionally, he was actively involved with Baptist Builders at Severns Valley Baptist Church. Since moving to Lewisville, he had been a member of Northwest Baptist Church. Bert worked 35 years for Kentucky Utilities in Campbellsville, Glasgow and Elizabethtown. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. He had countless tales to tell and loved sharing them with everybody. He was gregarious, friendly, well-liked and very much loved.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Fulmer Daugherty; and two daughters, Daune (George) Angell of Indian Valley, Va., and Dani Daugherty of Greensboro, N.C.

The body has been donated to Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
