Fred Harmon, 76, Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.
He was born March 19, 1937, in Indianapolis to the late Earl and Velma Hammond Harmon. Fred married Shirley Weaver on April 24, 1955, in Indianapolis, and she survives. Fred was involved in the ice manufacturing business for 51 years. At the age of 18 he began working for National Ice Company and spent the last 17 years of his career as the owner of Bluegrass Ice Company in Elizabethtown.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Harmon; and three sisters, Mary Logsdon, Nancy Ledger and Patty Harmon.
Other survivors include four daughters, Lora (Tom) Civils of Indianapolis, Melanie (Robert) Purdue of Mooresville, Ind., and Tracey (Ron) Wilkins and Angi (Jeb) Dickens, all of Greenwood, Ind.; three brothers, Charles (Charlene) Harmon and Frank (Jean) Harmon, all of Greenwood, and Richard (Kalynn) Harmon of Franklin, Ind.; three sisters, Alice (William) Dragoo of Amity, Ind., Helen Kissee of Greenwood and Fay (Charlie) Hayes of Shelbyville, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Indianapolis.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
